Day 32: Human Touch

Today was 5:30 with Dominique. It was one of those classes where you are not a train wreck, nor do you feel particularly strong. It was a go with the flow and be a shining example of medicrosy. I don't mind those classes one bit. They go by quite fast and don't seem very exciting one way or the other. Just business as usual. On the floor series Dominique came over during a savasana and picked my feet up, pulled my legs out a bit, set them down gently and applied a bit of pressure on my feet. It was sooooo relaxing. I lay there and thought to myself "now wasn't that lovely." When you are single you don't realize how much affection you have to do without! Oh sure we get hugs from friends, sweaty hugs from other yogis and affection from our kids (not so much when they are teenagers though) but it's not the same. Memories of a boyfriend ten years ago who loved to rub my feet and legs when we were watching tv came flooding back. I spent the rest of the floor series off in la la land. **Sigh**

  1. Oooh, the foot adjustment! I used to take a different kind of yoga, and the teacher did that, pressed down our shoulders, and touched our third eye as we lay in final savasana. HEAVEN.

I know what you mean... we can go days without realizing how electric, how fulfilling physical human contact can be, but when we get it? Wow.

  3. I had a teacher that during the savasana during spine series stood on/massaged the feet. It is wonderful! Some days I just long for it.

  4. Got a couple of teachers that do the foot to foot massage aHappyYogi mentioned, it is wonderful. Also got a should and neck massage in savasana yesterday. So nice... And it made a huge difference in second set (half-tortoise I think).

Jen, ouch. But I guess your not going to get a tighter or more sincere hug anywhere else.

  5. I miss the foot adjustment. The teachers here in Boston hardly ever step off the little podium. Sighhh...

  7. This reminded me. I had Roberta last Thursday and she broke out the yardstick again. Not quite the same as a foot massage...

  9. I've been dating someone for a year and a half now but I've spent most of my adult life single and I remember realizing how starved I was for human touch every time I went for a massage. It was a relief to have my muscles unjumbled but equally a relief just to have that human touch.

You've been inspiring me. I have been an on again off again Bikram yoga practitioner for years and am returning tonight! Thanks!! I'll be checking back in!

  13. I started the 60 day challenge about a month ago and am now on my 2nd month. I absolutely love Bikram Yoga. It has changed my life & my ability to say positive & have control over certain decisions and situations I have in my life.
