Day 18: What happened to BikramYogaChick?

Today was 5:30 with Roberta at the old studio.
By eagle I was ready to run screaming out the door.
Somehow I survived the class.
Barely.
Right about now I'm wondering....WTF? Where is strong BikramYogaChick? I've done other challenges. Why is it that on day 18 of this one, I've had more struggle days than normal days? Forget about having a Rockstar day, I just want to get through without wanting to die!
I'm thinking there is a lesson to be learned in this.
I'll let you know when I figure it out.
Meanwhile, I'm going to go up to Summerlin tomorrow night and try out Marc's class. Haven't taken his yet. I'm told it's tough.
Great.......

  2. Hey, Remember me? I asked about what to bring to my first yoga class, and well, I did it! Friday night was my first class, and I was thinking WTF, there is no way I can survive the heat, but I came back the next day (5 day trial pass purchased, not gonna waste it. The owner had been out of town and got back on Saturday, and she apologized for the heat! It was 117*F in there.

So, now I'm planning to go 5 days a week until I finish school, and then possibly bump it up to 6-7 days a week.

I love Bikram Yoga! Does that make me crazy, or a masochist?

&Thanks for the blog, out of all of them, yours has inspired me the most to give it a try.

  3. As ActionJoJo said, no attachements to your past challenges or even classes.
Today is today and today you do yoga. Today is the first day of the rest of your life and this particular first day was a tough one. Tomorrows first day of the rest of your life will have a new class and be a new challenge. If that is tough as well you know that you put a lot of energy into the yoga that you wouldn't be able to do if you just could glide through.

  4. "What body did you bring to class today? Every day is different." Teachers are always saying that. Whenever it's tougher than usual, I think we're adjusting to something, clearing something out or clearing something up. Physical, emotional, spiritual, or mental, any issue being worked out can take some extra energy.

  5. Yep. You could do it for 20 years and you'll still have days, weeks, months when it just kicks your ASS. Humility. We get to practice it ALL the time, even when we don't mean to.

Remember Bikram? "The more you suffer, you must be happy, you are getting more benefit from my class."

The one thing that you gain from experience is that you can recognize the cycles, right? You can say, "oh, ok, I'm fricking DYING right now. what happened the LAST time this happened? it passed." :)

  6. Strong Bikramyogachick is there in all of your classes--sometimes your strength shows physically; other times, like this class, it shows through your determination and perseverance to push through and do your best! :)Your inner strength is always there. Congrats on 18 days!!

  7. Thank you so much for all of the encouraging words! I sure did need that pick me up and reading your comments this morning is giving me the courage I need to prepare for that room tonight. It's ok if I get knocked down, I have all of you to pick me back up! :)

Michelle~ So glad you went! I do remember your comment, I answered back with some suggestions. Sounds like you are taking to bikram just fine! I love it! I promise it will change your life...if you let it. Comment again later and let me know how you are doing!

  8. You've been through this before. You know you'll come out Ok. One thing I do which may help is when I feel rough at the beginning of class, I actually adjust my practice. I take my foot off the gas a bit. Then I just feel it out and many times I'll be able to jack it back up again after a few postures. Not always, but sometimes. I strongly disagree with sitting out postures, especially the standing series for the main reason that I think it takes more energy to sit down and get back up. I'd rather just do the posture without much depth.

  9. Greg~ You're right...esp if you know you will get yelled at for sitting down! Better to just struggle through. :)

  10. OH MY GOD>>>>> Weird! My day 18 was terrible too! Check mine out. WOW... Maybe it's just another "detox phase" that far in, who knows.. You're doing awesome!

  11. Not so weird. I've noticed that the first block for lots of people comes about the 1/3 point, no matter how long the challenge. So this sounds pretty normal to me.

  12. Duffy~ thanks for the reminder! It might behoove me to read my own darn blog entries from past challenges and maybe I would've realized that instead of feeling frustrated!
